• A collection in Research Data Australia is an aggregation of physical or digital objects.
  • ANDS recommended vocabulary for collection types is:
    • catalogueOrIndex: a set of resource descriptions describing the content of one or more repositories or collective works
    • collection: aggregated items created as separate and independent works and assembled into a collective whole for distribution and use
    • registry: a group of descriptive objects collected to support the business of a given community

Water Quality dataset, Great Barrier Reef

Type: Dataset
Brief description: Each collection station is denoted by date, latitude and longitude. The data were sampled at several depths at each site: the number of samples was primarily, but not always, dependent on bottom-depth. A unique identifier has been assigned to each replicate.

Variables: depth, dissolved inorganic phosphate (DIP), silicate, ammonium, nitrite, nitrate, dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), dissolved organic carbon (DOC), temperature, salinity, particulate nitrogen (PN), particulate phosphorus (PP), particulate organic carbon (POC), zooplankton, total dissolved nitrogen (TDN), total dissolved phosphorus (TDP), Chlorophyll a, phaeophytin, Secchi disk. Weather information is recorded on swell and wind.

Information about the methods used are in the Data Quality section of this metadata record.

Coverage:  More information
Region Marker Region Marker. Marks the centre of a region of coverage on the map (i.e. a polygon defined by a series of latitude/longitude pairs). The region of coverage is indicated by a red semi-opaque polygon within a red boundary.
Place MarkerPlace Marker. Marks the location of a place on the map (defined by a latitude/longitude pair).
